The importance of human connection and touch has come into sharp focus during the two years when I was separated from my family and home, due to college and Covid. Twice a week, my family gather at my grandpa’s home to share a meal. During this sacred time, we share our week’s news, laughter, and sorrow. It is when I feel most connected to my family, and I am most at peace. It had been missing for the last two years.

Through my work, I aim to recreate this sense of familial connection through a set of dinnerware that is inspired by and invites human touch. The range of pieces is those that we use in our traditional Sunday gatherings, while surfaces are inspired by the subtle colours within the dramatic Icelandic landscape. I want this work to give a comforting embrace to the user in the same way that my family and the Icelandic landscape embrace me.
